In 1906, a railway was brought to Gimli, the railway company CPR then started preparing a track from Winnipeg to Árdalsbyggð. As elsewhere on the plains of Western Canada, a railway station was needed, and the site chosen for it was in the village. When the construction of the road was finished, the village was given a new name, Arborg.

The 5th this month during the the night the farmer in Gimli, Rafn Jonsson, died. He was between 60 and 70 years old. He was the halfbrother of Páll sál (Soal) who was a priest (and a man who makes a Christian poetry) in Viðvik in Skagafjordur (Iceland) and died there.

Rafn is a half brother to Séra Páll Jónsson of Vellir. He left the Saubær District of Dalasýla and found work at Krossárbakki in Bitrufjörður,in the neighbouring region of Strandasýsla. He then moved to Kárastaðir on Vatnsnes on 1855 there he met Ingibjörg Thorvaldsdóttir.Shortly after there marrage they moved to a near by holding, Helguhvammur and in 1860 they were in Kirkjuhvammur. In 1862 they moved to Dalasýsla, but there they were divorced and he move to Vatnsnes Peninsula in 1866. Where he met his second wife Rósa. They moved to Hrísar in Viðidalur in1868.Then back to Kothvammur within a year or so. In the spring of 1872 they moved to Kirkjuhvammsbùð and after that to Canada in 1873. They were married in Parry Sound , Ont. in 1874. In the summer of 1875 they left for Manitoba. Lived at a homestead named Lundur, Gimli 1877, 1879.
