In 1906, a railway was brought to Gimli, the railway company CPR then started preparing a track from Winnipeg to Árdalsbyggð. As elsewhere on the plains of Western Canada, a railway station was needed, and the site chosen for it was in the village. When the construction of the road was finished, the village was given a new name, Arborg.

The 5th this month during the the night the farmer in Gimli, Rafn Jonsson, died. He was between 60 and 70 years old. He was the halfbrother of Páll sál (Soal) who was a priest (and a man who makes a Christian poetry) in Viðvik in Skagafjordur (Iceland) and died there.
