The sons of Þorkell Guðmundsson and Jóhanna Ámundadóttir immigrated to North America as young children and were known here by the surname of Jónasson. This name derives from Jóhanna Ámundadóttir's second husband, Jónas Jónasson. When he brought the family to Canada they entered this country under only one name. They were all naturalized as Canadian citizens under this name on 12 Jan. 1921. Guðmundur Jónasson used the name Thorkelsson as a middle name.
